Description
Asetek Initium Direct Drive Wheelbase is aimed squarely at drivers stepping into direct drive for the first time without wanting the experience watered down. The 5.5Nm servo motor delivers a clean, connected steering feel, while the broad compatibility with Asetek wheels and button boxes makes it easy to build a more serious setup over time. There’s a crispness to the feedback that immediately stands out compared to older belt or gear systems, especially when catching slides or loading the car into fast corners.
What Sets the Asetek Initium Direct Drive Wheelbase apart?
-
A Strong Entry Point Into Direct Drive – The Initium stands out because it focuses on delivering a proper direct drive experience without overwhelming newer users. Drivers often describe the steering feel as clean and predictable, making it easier to understand what the car is doing underneath them. It avoids the vague, elastic sensation common in older entry-level systems while still remaining approachable.
-
Upgrade-Friendly Ecosystem – One of the biggest advantages is compatibility with several Asetek wheels and button boxes. Users appreciate being able to start with a simpler setup and expand later without replacing the wheelbase itself. This makes the Initium feel less like a temporary starter product and more like the foundation of a growing sim racing setup.
-
Servo Motor Feel That Prioritizes Control – Rather than focusing purely on brute strength, the Initium emphasizes clarity and consistency. Feedback tends to come through smoothly, helping drivers build confidence during braking and corner entry. Many users mention that it feels composed during quick steering corrections instead of overly aggressive or twitchy.
-
Compact and Manageable for Smaller Setups – The 5.5Nm output makes the wheelbase easier to use on lighter rigs or reinforced desks compared to more powerful systems. Drivers often highlight how manageable it feels during longer sessions, especially for those upgrading from mainstream consumer wheels who want direct drive feedback without needing an industrial-strength cockpit.

Asetek Initium Direct Drive Wheelbase Compatibility
The Initium Wheelbase is designed around the Asetek ecosystem and supports a wide range of the company’s steering wheels and button boxes. It is compatible with the Initium Wheel, La Prima Formula Wheel, and Forte Formula Wheel, along with several GT and Formula button boxes. This gives users flexibility to expand their setup over time without replacing the base itself.
There are some limitations within the ecosystem, however. The wheelbase is not compatible with the Forte Formula Pro Steering Wheel or the Invicta Formula Steering Wheel, which are aimed at higher-tier hardware configurations. Even so, the supported hardware range still covers a broad mix of GT and formula-style setups for most sim racers.
On the platform side, the Initium is fully compatible with PC racing simulations and works with major sim titles that support direct drive systems. It is not natively compatible with PlayStation or Xbox consoles, focusing entirely on PC sim racing environments.
